If something the association shows you is wrong

The association got it wrong. A record shown against the wrong query, a label that overstates what a source said, a date read incorrectly, a source described inaccurately in the directory. This is ours to fix, and we will.

The publisher got it wrong. The record in the official register is itself mistaken or out of date. The association cannot change another body's register, and it would be alarming if it could — what it publishes is what that body published.

Tell us either way. Where the mistake is the publisher's, we will say where the record came from and how to reach them, and we will note the dispute against what we show while it is unresolved.

Write to info@upa-int.org. It helps to include the search or the report number, what you were shown, and what is wrong with it — but write anyway if you have only part of that.

You do not have to be a member. If you are the person a record is about, or you are acting for them, say so.

1. The association acknowledges what you send.
2. It checks the record against the source, which is why every result and every report carries the source it came from and the date it was retrieved.
3. Where the association was wrong, it corrects it, and — if the mistake reached a published report or a page — it says so rather than editing quietly.
4. Where the publisher was wrong, it tells you which body holds the record and how to ask them to correct it.

Said plainly, so nobody spends time on a request that cannot be granted:

• It cannot remove a record from a public register because somebody would rather it were not there. The record is not the association's to remove, and a register that could be edited by request would be worth nothing to anybody.
• It cannot confirm that a record is about you, or that it is not. It shows what a publisher published; it does not identify people.
• It cannot advise you on what a record means for you legally. That is work for a lawyer in the relevant country.
