An Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) specialist, she is on the frontlines of the Ebola response, working as a consultant with the World Health Organization (WHO). “When I leave a health facility knowing the staff are better protected and able to work safely, I know our collective efforts are saving lives,” says Yangala, who has worked in public health for 13 years. Outcome of ROK–Nepal Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Conversation (August 27)

Countries: Nepal, Republic of Korea Source: Government of the Republic of Korea Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun held a telephone conversation with Shisir Khanal, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal, on the afternoon of Thursday, August 27. The two Ministers discussed the damage caused by the floods that struck Nepal on Wednesday, August 26, and Minister Cho requested the Nepalese government’s keen attention to and support for the search and rescue of Korean nationals. Minister Cho was briefed by Minister Khanal on the scale of the damage caused by the floods in the Rasuwa region and on the ongoing response efforts. Minister Cho extended his deepest condolences to the people of Nepal affected by the floods and to the bereaved families of the victims. He went on to state that, in order to support the Nepalese government’s rapid response and swift recovery efforts, the Republic of Korea will provide humanitarian assistance amounting to USD1 million through international organizations operating on the ground. Vanuatu Ministry of Health: Watery Diarrhoea Outbreak in Tanna Island, Tafea Province - Situation Update No. 2 - Report Date: 31 August 2026 | Reporting Period: 10-30 August 2026

Key highlights: Rotavirus has been laboratory confirmed as the cause of the acute watery diarrhoea outbreak on Tanna Island. A cumulative 260 cases have been reported between EW30 and EW35, with 153 cases reported in EW35 alone, representing the highest weekly case count recorded to date. Transmission remains ongoing across Tanna Island, with cases reported from all surveillance sentinel sites. Children under five years account for 87% of reported cases, with children under two years most affected. One death has been reported in a one-year-old child with severe dehydration and underlying malnutrition. Response activities continue, including enhanced surveillance, case management, health promotion, and community engagement.

September 2nd, 2026 ― Doha, Qatar: As part of its humanitarian response to the health and food crisis in Gaza, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has begun providing baby formula at a total cost of $426,000, to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian families who cannot find essential nutrition for their children. Dr. Akram Nassar, head of QRCS’s representation office in Gaza, explained that the new project was directly supporting 10,000 infants and young children across Gaza, with 25,000 tin cans of high-quality, international-standard baby formula being distributed. According to him, the distributions started at the clinics of NECC Gaza in both Gaza and Deir Al-Balah Governorates, to help save the lives of malnourished children. “We made sure to provide baby formula varieties suitable for different age groups and varying physical needs,” added Dr. Nassar. “The distributions included SMA 1 and SMA 2 milks for newborns, as well as Nido 3+ for toddlers”. AMDA Emergency Relief #1: Flash Floods in Nepal (2 September 2026)

Country: Nepal Source: Association of Medical Doctors of Asia Please refer to the attached file. In response to the large-scale flash floods and landslides that struck near the Nepal-China border, on 29 August, AMDA Nepal dispatched a fivemember team, including its chapter chairperson, to Bidur Municipality which suffered extensive damage. According to the latest bulletin released by Nepal’s disaster-management authority NDRRMA, the death toll has reached 903, with 267 people injured (156 discharged) and 4,247 individuals still reported missing (as of 31 August). While government-led rescue operations were still underway in the affected area, the team conducted a field assessment for potential aid activities. As of now, AMDA Nepal has placed medical teams from AMDA Damak Hospital and Siddhartha Children and Women Hospital (in Butwal) on standby so that they can begin medical relief activities immediately once approval is granted by the government or local authorities. AMDA will continue working closely with relevant partners to support those in need.
