The Gender Alert highlights critical protection and gender-specific needs following the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, on 15 August 2026. As of 30 August, the earthquake had caused 111 deaths, injured 1,629 people and displaced 188,161 people across eight districts. EU provides €12 million to WHO to sustain essential health services and support recovery across Syria
Country: Syrian Arab Republic Source: World Health Organization 30 August 2026, Damascus, Syrian Arab Republic – The World Health Organization (WHO) has received €12 million (approximately US$14 million) from European Union Humanitarian Aid, to help sustain essential health services across Syria while supporting the country’s transition towards recovery. As Syria moves forward, population movements, changing health needs and increased demand for services are placing additional pressure on health facilities and health care workers. Continued investment is needed to ensure that essential care remains available while building on progress already made and adapting services to the country’s evolving health priorities. Working closely with the Ministry of Health and health partners, WHO will use the funding to maintain access to primary and secondary health care while strengthening emergency and trauma services, mental health care, rehabilitation, referral systems, disease surveillance and outbreak preparedness. The contribution will also support health care workers to continue delivering quality care as needs evolve. “Syria is moving forward, and sustaining this progress will require co…
