In Gaza, although unable to assess all areas of the Strip, partners have encountered over 1,000 dangerous items while carrying out their daily missions. Meanwhile in the West Bank, the Palestinian Authority identified 255 explosive ordnance items in the first four months of 2026, already surpassing the total found in all of 2023. Aside from the threat to life and limb, the presence of explosive ordnance shrinks the already restricted space available for humanitarian and civilian activities. Even the potential presence of explosive ordnance restricts the space that people can use for livelihood activities, stalls humanitarian delivery, and makes everyday activities – like collecting firewood, setting up shelters, or going to the market – more dangerous. GENERAL CONTEXT Haute-Kotto Prefecture – Center Humanitarian access in Haute-Kotto Prefecture continues to be affected by the deteriorating condition of roads, compounded by seasonal weather conditions, making the movement of humanitarian actors increasingly challenging. Between 20 and 28 August, several vehicles and trucks transporting humanitarian assistance were stranded for several days due to muddy road conditions, particularly along the Bria–Ouadda and Aïgbando routes. These logistical constraints caused delays in the delivery of assistance, including food supplies intended for distributions during the lean season, as well as in the implementation of protection and health activities in the affected areas. Country: Nepal Source: Caritas Days after catastrophic floods buried whole villages, Caritas Nepal is expanding its humanitarian aid reach. On 26 August, a glacial lake in the Himalayas breached its natural banks in what is known as a glacial lake outburst flood, a sudden release of water, ice and rock triggered when a lake dammed by glacial debris gives way, sending a wall of water and mud crashing down the valleys below. Days later, Arpana Karki, Programme Coordinator for Caritas Nepal’s Disaster Management Department, explains the response so far, the current needs on the ground, and how communities are coping with the mud left behind. “Mud is everywhere,” she says — and she recounts how one Caritas team became stuck for eighteen hours on their way to deliver aid to Nuwakot. This Gender Alert highlights the need for gender-responsive early action to anticipate the impacts of El Niño 2026 on women, girls and vulnerable groups in Indonesia. El Niño-related drought, water shortages, food insecurity, forest and land fires, livelihood disruptions and economic pressures can disproportionately affect women and girls and exacerbate risks of gender-based violence (GBV), child marriage, human trafficking, labour exploitation and neglect, while increasing vulnerabilities among persons with disabilities, older people, pregnant and breastfeeding women, female-headed households and poor households. The Alert identifies priority areas and groups requiring particular attention and emphasizes the importance of translating early warning information into concrete early protective actions. Community dialogues build trust in Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Country: Democratic Republic of the Congo Source: World Health Organization **Nyankunde—**In areas affected by the Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD) outbreak, gaining the trust of communities remains essential. Rumours, fear of Ebola treatment centres and safe burial practices, as well as reluctance toward certain public health interventions, can delay alerts, patient care, contact tracing and case management. In Nyankunde, a health zone located 45km from Bunia, the capital of Ituri province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, this reality has been particularly evident. Of the 11 health areas, eight were affected by the outbreak. Safe and dignified burials, site decontamination and the use of body bags were at times met with resistance from affected communities. In some cases, reluctance went beyond refusal of public health measures. The Ebola Treatment Centre, set up near the general referral hospital was attacked on 15 and 16 July 2026, illustrating the challenges faced by response teams. World Vision International Nepal Rasuwa – Nuwakot Flash Flood Emergency Response - Situation update 1 | 03 September, 2026
Country: Nepal Source: World Vision On 26 August 2026, devastating flash floods reportedly triggered by a glacier avalanche near the Nepal-China border affected Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and downstream districts. Communities including Timure, Rasuwagadhi, Syabrubesi, Trishuli Bazaar, Betrawati and Sole sustained severe damage to homes, livelihoods, critical infrastructure and essential services. Roads, bridges, power supplies and communications networks were disrupted, leaving many communities inaccessible and isolated. The Government of Nepal has declared Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading disaster crisis zones as search, rescue and relief operations continue.
