Lebanon: Flash Update #52 - Escalation of hostilities in Lebanon (as of 31 August 2026)
Country: Lebanon Source: UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Please refer to the attached file. HIGHLIGHTS Continued insecurity and protection concerns in southern Lebanon: Military activity, including airstrikes, shelling, demolitions, and incursions, continued across South and Nabatieh governorates, affecting civilian safety, humanitarian access, and recovery efforts. Returns continue, but humanitarian needs remain acute: Displacement levels continued to decline gradually, with more than 823,000 people recorded as returned to their areas of origin. However, insecurity, damaged housing, disrupted services, explosive hazards, and limited livelihood opportunities continue to hinder sustainable return and prolong humanitarian needs among returnees, displaced populations, and host communities. Humanitarian response scales support amid funding and access challenges: Ongoing access constraints, infrastructure damage, and persistent funding shortfalls continue to challenge response operations and the restoration of essential services in conflict-affected areas. Humanitarian funding remains limited: As of 31 August, Flash Appeal received US$332.4 million (52 per cent) r…

Sudan: Common Pipeline Stock Depletion – Urgent Funding Required - 2 September 2026
Country: Sudan Sources: CCCM Cluster, Shelter Cluster, Shelter, Land and Site Coordination Cluster Please refer to the attached file. KEY MESSAGE Site Management funding has collapsed to 8.7%, and the grant funding the common pipeline for shelter and non-food items closes this month. With most remaining stock earmarked and no confirmed replenishment, families newly displaced in the coming months will face prolonged exposure to weather, disease, and protection risks with no cluster capacity to respond. COMMON PIPELINE SITUATION Site Management is funded at just 8.7% (USD 1.3M of USD 15.0M) – one of the most critically underfunded sectors in the 2026 HNRP. Emergency Shelter/NFI stands at 31.0% (USD 55.5M of USD 179.4M). 942,593 people remain in the SNFI gap nationally, with only 45.4% of the target reached to date according to the 2026 HNRP planning figures not counting the recent displacements. The US/SHF grant funding the common pipeline closes this month, and most remaining stock is tightly earmarked, leaving no flexibility for new emergencies. Confirmed replenishment stands at roughly 16,000 NFI kits and 3,000 tents – not arriving until November–December, and not yet funded. Unde…

Ukraine: Humanitarian Needs and Response Review (January - June 2026)
Country: Ukraine Source: UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Please refer to the attached Infographic. In the second quarter of 2026, the humanitarian situation deteriorated significantly owing to intensified and expanding attacks, further affecting civilians, essential services and humanitarian operations and resulting in more complex vulnerabilities and needs. Civilian casualties during the first half of 2026 increased by 37 per cent year-on-year, with June 2026 recording the highest monthly casualty toll since April 2022, according to the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU). The growth was mainly driven by long-range strikes in urban centres, including further from areas of active fighting, and short-range drones near the front line. Repeated strikes impacted civilian movement and access to essential services. Humanitarian operations were increasingly affected as attacks damaged humanitarian facilities and assets, as well as transportation and logistics infrastructure. Front-line Donetska, Zaporizka and Dnipropetrovska oblasts remained the most affected during this quarter as the geographic reach of attacks expanded, driving further displacem…

Urgent needs persist three weeks after earthquake in Colombia
Country: Colombia Source: Médecins Sans Frontières Three weeks after the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck western Colombia on 10 August, the initial phase of the emergency has ended, but thousands of people are still facing difficulties accessing medical care, mental health support, food, and materials to rebuild their homes. Although the earthquake severely affected cities such as Cali and Pereira, the most critical gaps remain in areas that have long faced poverty, barriers to healthcare, and the presence of armed groups. In parts of Quibdó and Medio Baudó in Chocó, as well as Buenaventura in Valle del Cauca, where conditions were already precarious before the disaster, the earthquake has further exacerbated existing needs. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) sent assessment and response teams to Valle del Cauca, Chocó, and Risaralda, prioritising areas where needs remain greatest and where the response has been more limited. “Unlike other emergencies, the effects of the earthquake in Colombia were not concentrated in one place,” says Siham Hajaj, MSF head of mission in Colombia. “The impact was felt across territories that may seem close to one another but are separated by rivers…

Mozambique Food Security Outlook: Conflict, slow recovery from floods, and dry conditions constrain food access, August 2026 - January 2027
Country: Mozambique Source: Famine Early Warning System Network Please refer to the attached file. Key Messages Crisis (IPC Phase 3) outcomes are expected to persist through January 2027 in conflict-affected areas of Cabo Delgado and northern Nampula as persistent activity by non-state armed groups (NSAG) increases population displacement and disrupts livelihoods and markets, constraining food access. The onset of the lean season in November will further reduce household food stocks and purchasing power, while insecurity may trigger additional displacement, including in Niassa. Stressed! (IPC Phase 2!) outcomes are expected where sustained food assistance is available, while areas less affected by conflict will remain Stressed (IPC Phase 2) or Minimal (IPC Phase 1). Stressed (IPC Phase 2) outcomes are expected to persist from August to September across most southern and central areas, supported by remaining food stocks and second season production. However, localized Crisis (IPC Phase 3) outcomes are expected from October to Januaryas food stocks decline amid high staple food prices and constrained purchasing power. Poor households will increasingly rely on coping strategies, inclu…
