Three official registers are now copied to the association's own server and refreshed every night: the Global LEI Index, which covers 3.4 million legal entities in 307 jurisdictions; Norway's Enhetsregisteret, 1.17 million; and the United States SEC's filer index, 982,648.
Searching them no longer means waiting for somebody else's server. A search that found nothing used to take half a second per source, because a database must read every record before it can say a record is absent; it now takes two to eight milliseconds.
Two things came with it. Searching EDGAR by company name works for the first time — the SEC publishes no name search that an automated client may use, but it does publish the whole index. And a company that renamed itself is findable under its old name: 56,108 former names in EDGAR alone, which is usually the name somebody researching a company actually has.
