UPA can now be installed on your telephone

Integrity · Service · Respect

The association's website can now be installed on a telephone or a tablet. It sits on the home screen under the association's own seal, opens in its own window without a browser's address bar, and is the same site you are reading now — same account, same membership, same search, same Academy.

It is not a separate application. There is nothing to download from an app store, nothing new to sign in to, and no second copy of your data. It is this website, delivered as an application.

On an iPhone or iPad

It has to be Safari — Chrome and Firefox on iOS cannot add a web application to the home screen, which is Apple's restriction rather than ours.

  1. Open https://upa-int.org in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Choose Add to Home Screen.
  4. Tap Add.

On Android

  1. Open https://upa-int.org in Chrome.
  2. A bar appears at the foot of the page offering to install. Tap Install.
  3. If you closed it, the Chrome menu has Install app or Add to home screen.

On a computer

Chrome and Edge show an install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar. The association's site then opens in its own window like any other program.

What works without a connection

Pages you have already opened may still be readable. The offline screen says plainly what is not: searches of external registers and open sources, signing in and out, payments and membership, reports and alerts. All four ask another server a question, and no application can answer one from a pocket.

Nothing is invented while you are offline. There are no cached search results presented as current, and no figures from a register that was last read a week ago.

What is stored on your device

The association's own furniture — the stylesheet, the seal, the pages anybody can read without signing in. Nothing belonging to you. Not your account, not your searches, not your reports, not your card, not your invoices.

That is deliberate and it is worth saying why: the store a browser keeps for an installed application is shared by everybody who picks up that phone, and it survives signing out. So it is never written to.

Notifications

Not switched on. If the association turns them on later it will be a decision it announces, and your telephone will ask your permission before anything is sent.

Nothing about the website changes for anybody who would rather keep using it in a browser. Read it at https://upa-int.org

The association counts visits with its own tables — no advertising, no third party, and nothing that follows you off this site. It is off unless you say otherwise, and you can change your mind at any time.
